REALTOR® Raises $6,000 for Local Women’s Shelters with Casino Night

Dena Sicard of Royal LePage Frank Real Estate recently hosted an immensely successful “Casino Night Extravaganza” in support of her upcoming participation in the Machu Picchu Challenge for Shelter. Her generous and fun-loving guests were treated to a live band and performance by Samara York, Peruvian style tapas, and a silent auction brimming with popular items. At a selection of gaming tables, guests played for bragging rights and tickets for draw prizes awarded over the course of the evening.

“I could not have asked for a more gratifying night,” said Sicard. “My goal for the evening was to raise $5,000 and I am thrilled to have raised a whopping $6,000 with the help of all who sponsored, attended and volunteered.”

Proceeds from the evening will support local shelter The Denise House and YWCA Durham. Representative from both organizations attended to offer Sicard and guests their warmest thanks. “This donation will be used at The Denise House to support children affected by domestic violence, by helping fund our specialized programs and one-to-one work to meet each child’s unique needs,” said board director Leigh Winn-Kruck.

The YWCA Durham continues to operate Y’s Wish Emergency Shelter and Durham Region’s only Second Stage Housing for women at risk with the support of community sponsors such as Royal LePage Frank Real Estate. “The efforts people like Dena Sicard and her colleagues are not only appreciated, but have changed and saved lives,” said board director Tracey Burke.

Participants of the Machu Picchu Challenge for Shelter will be trekking to the lost city of Machu Picchu, Peru in August 2015. Trekkers from Royal LePage offices across Canada must raise $5,000 each for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and cover their own travel costs.
