The Saint John Real Estate Board (New Brunswick) hosted an AMAZING RACE on August 12, which raised $7,028.85 for the YMCA-YWCA "Strong Kids" Charity.

Competition was fierce among the participating teams of REALTORS®; as the first clues were handed out, members shoved each other out of the way to race to their cars and, hurling a last few good-humoured insults to one another, they sped off across the city.

Cryptic clues led teams to various stops,

including the zoo, a seafood market to chomp down raw oysters, a nearby lake for a canoeing expedition, an aquatic driving range, a rock wall, a children's indoor park, hotel corridors to hunt down a room with a lockbox, and a grocery store.

Participants were eager to take the top prize and win the race; some teams reportedly gained an edge by bending the laws of traffic, parking, gravity, and even common courtesy. All in good fun...and in the name of charity!

In the end, the team of Pam Trites, Heather Stewart, Tara Morrison, and Dorothy Reid -- the GREEN TEAM, from Exit Realty Specialists Saint John -- reigned victorious, raising over $2,000 for Strong Kids and finishing what should have been a roughly 90-minute race in 45 short minutes!

That evening, many more members enjoyed a barbeque, a silent auction, and a beautiful summer evening by the lake. Best of all, REALTORS® in greater Saint John are deeply pleased to support the YMCA and its STRONG KIDS campaign, which supports families, teens, and children who are unable to afford participation in YMCA programs.

REALTOR® clearing the way for safe school fun

REALTOR® Scott Darling, of Royal LePage Atlantic, has helped made life a lot more pleasant for students at a Saint John, New Brunswick elementary school.

Darling has played a key role in renovating the school's fields, which have been uneven dirt and gravel for the last three years, since the grass was stripped away in an unsuccessful attempt to lay turf.

When Darling, whose son is a student at the school and who owns the subdivision in which the school is situated, discovered that kids were being injured on the fields, he was moved to action.

"This seemed like a very important need for the community," he says.

Darling is not just providing materials and funding, either; during the hottest part of summer, he personally rolled up his sleeves and spent a full day laying sod himself.

His contributions to the field include grading the field, adding topsoils and sod, and installing a fence, tubes and cement. Partners in the project include building supplies company Kent, and Strescon, a cement company.

Darling, who hopes to have the field completed by fall, says he was very proud to be part of the renovation. "You've got to take care of your neighbours," he says.
