REALTORS Care® Week is an annual national week of volunteer service for REALTORS® and a time for the REALTOR® community to raise awareness about important housing and shelter-related issues. The inaugural REALTORS Care® Week took place in November 2019 and saw REALTORS® come together to share the comfort of home in communities from coast to coast.

From November 23 to 27, 2020, CREA held its second annual REALTORS Care® Week. It was a time to celebrate our REALTOR® members’ long-standing commitment to volunteer service. It was also an opportunity to focus in on the topic of homelessness, learn about efforts to end and prevent it in Canada for good, and explore how the REALTOR® community can help.

Although hands-on volunteering opportunities were limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were so proud to see more than 30 real estate boards and associations across the country step up to support homelessness-related organizations on behalf of their members in safe and physically distant ways during REALTORS Care® Week 2020. They raised awareness, committed to ongoing advocacy work, and collectively raised and donated more than $118,000, as well as tons of blankets, warm clothes, gift cards, food and personal care items.

REALTORS Care® Week 2020 Virtual Conference on Homelessness

The conference featured REALTORS®, keynote speaker Jesse Thistle, and compelling expert panels. Attendees learned about the issue and the efforts being made to end and prevent homelessness in Canada for good. Click here to watch the recording.

CREA’s Letter to Minister Hussen Voicing Support for Efforts to End and Prevent Homelessness in Canada

On November 30, 2020, CREA sent a letter—signed by more than 300 REALTORS® during REALTORS Care® Week 2020—to the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, voicing support for the federal government’s recent commitments to end chronic homelessness and increase affordable housing capacity.

With this letter, CREA aimed to show the REALTOR® community is committed to continuing to use our collective voice in support of the creation of more safe and affordable homes across the housing spectrum, simultaneously helping the most vulnerable populations and allowing more Canadians to gain stability and opportunity through homeownership.
