Many REALTORS® continue to give of their time, money and expertise, and this is the seventh year the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board’s (OMREB) Shuswap Zone has recognized the exemplary efforts of its members by awarding annual REALTORS Care® Awards. The announcement was made at the Zone’s Annual General Meeting on November 28, 2013, and Board‐wide recognition will occur at OMREB’s Annual General Meeting in March, 2014.

“Douglas Hubscher is a very worthy recipient of this award,” notes Karen Singbeil, OMREB President and REALTOR®. “His diligent and ongoing support for the South Shuswap First Responders and his commitment to providing emergency medical care is commendable. Doug exemplifies those REALTORS® who have made long‐term contributions to the communities in which they live and work. They help to promote public awareness that REALTORS® care deeply and are committed to being actively involved.”

Doug is recognized for tirelessly donating his time and energy to reducing pain and suffering, and saving lives. An outstanding citizen who always puts the good and safety of his community first, he has been actively involved with the South Shuswap First Responders (SSFR) since its inception to respond within minutes to emergency medical situations in the South Shuswap area 13 years ago. Over the years, he has served as president and former training officer. Always “on call” with a “must help” attitude, Doug has personally attended to 133 patients for a variety of medical emergencies (vehicle accidents, heart attacks, falls) since becoming a REALTOR® in 2006.

“REALTORS® are good public citizens,” notes Janice Myers, Executive Director of the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board. “They care about the communities that they live and work in, and the world around them. I am always amazed at all the ways REALTORS® give back, the leadership they take and the good example they set for others.”

The Shuswap Zone of OMREB includes the areas of Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Sorrento, North Shuswap and east along Highway 1 to Revelstoke. The Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB) is comprised of 1,007 member REALTORS® and 93 real estate offices in the Southern Interior of BC.

The SSFR Association was established with the intent to improve emergency medical care to individuals in the local communities prior to the arrival of BC Ambulance Service paramedics dispatched from the Village of Chase or City of Salmon Arm. The trained and licensed volunteers carry emergency equipment in their vehicles at all times so they are prepared to respond to the scene of an accident at any time ‐‐ day or night, rain or shine – arriving well ahead of ambulance paramedics, police and fire and rescue teams.
