Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty Helps Get Kids off the Sidelines and into Sports

The team at Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty wants all children to experience the social and health benefits of organized sports. On May 27, 2012, REALTORS®, staff and Broker Tamara Cinnamon hosted their 2nd Annual Sutton Lakefront Realty/Mind, Body & Sole 5km Walk/Run for KidSport™. With an excellent turnout on the sunny spring day, the event raised $3,000 to provide underprivileged children with sports equipment and various fees. Tamara was very impressed with the level of participation.

“It was just so heart-warming to see so many of our clients, families, friends and even dogs come out to support this great charity,” Tamara recalls. “One grandmother ran the five kilometres; she was beaming at the end as she hadn’t actually run since being a kid herself!”

In 2011, the Lakefront team decided to make a real difference close to home. With the economic downturn of recent years, some families have struggled to make ends meet. After paying for the necessities, there is often not enough left over for sports equipment and registration fees.

“We have chosen to be the title sponsor of this event as we believe in the youth of our community. The KidSport™ mission statement kind of sums it up: ‘We believe that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports. KidSport™ provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.’”

KidSport™ Canada is a national not-for-profit organization that assists with registration fees and sports equipment for children aged 18 and under. Coaches and families are welcome to apply in confidence for financial assistance that would allow a child to play a season of sport. KidSport™ has a network of 11 provincial/territorial chapters and 177 community chapters across Canada. In addition to improving fitness, the organization aims to foster strong life skills such as teamwork, fair play and healthy self-esteem.
