Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty Hosts Warm and Fuzzy Shelter Collection and the Dream Auction

On November 8, 2012, Sutton Group – Lakefront Realty hosted their 2nd Annual Sutton Warm and Fuzzy Shelter Collection in Vernon, British Columbia. The Sutton team invited donors to drop by their office’s parking lot with blankets, warm coats, gloves, hats, and other clothing items. Following the event, all donations were delivered to the Howard House and Gateway shelters for distribution to local people in need.

REALTOR® Beth Marks came up with the idea for the drive-thru Sutton Warm and Fuzzy Shelter Collection when she saw a news report about the shelters’ emergency cold weather plans and the dire need for clothing and blankets. Since the office is centrally located, Beth thought the drive-thru would be a fast, easy way for people to make a difference.

“We recognize that there are a lot of challenges for low-income people to live in our community,” says Beth. “We want to do what we can.”

Beth was also instrumental in the 28th Annual Dream Auction hosted by the Kalamalka Rotary Club of Vernon BC, which took place on November 17, 2012, and raised over $165,000. “During the past 27 years we have been successful in raising in excess of $2.1 million, all of which have been donated to various local and international charities, non-profit organizations and Rotary sponsored projects,” she explains.

On September 7, 2012, the Kalamaka Rotary Club donated $50,000 from the proceeds of the Auction to the purchase of a KidSport bus to transport children, seniors and adults to and from sports programs. The $84,560 bus was purchased jointly with the Kalamalka Rotary Club, the Government of Canada, and the Regional District of the North Okanagan.
