REALTORS® in Greater Saint John spent the summer collecting food and cash donations for the Saint John Real Estate Board’s third annual food drive in support of food banks across southwest New Brunswick.

Bags, boxes, and trunk-loads of food were dragged into the Board office all summer long after the food drive officially kicked off on June 7 with a REALTOR® softball game. The game, billed as “BATTER UP!”, encouraged the donation of non-perishable breakfast food items for a local community centre that steps in to feed kids over the summer when school breakfast programs aren’t available.

Amazing displays of generosity punctuated the remainder of the very successful summer food drive, including a substantial donation of over $300 of groceries from a single individual REALTOR®, George Carroll, and an incredible $2,000 donation from the very small but mighty “Oakhill Realty,” comprised of only four REALTORS®.

The entire event wrapped up on August 1 with a community barbeque, where members welcomed food donations from the public in exchange for hamburgers, hotdogs, and cake. “We are absolutely thrilled with the generosity our members show the Saint John community every summer,” said Saint John Real Estate Board director and local REALTORS Care® Committee co-chair Tim Somerville. “Many people don’t realize how desperately in need food banks are in the summer, since most people only think to donate at Christmas time.”

“In Greater Saint John, REALTORS® are obviously very aware, very concerned, and very, very supportive. We are incredibly proud of them.”
