LSTAR and “Home at Last” Partners Move House, Soon to Be Refurbished for Family in Need

Time to move house… literally! On Monday, June 13, 2011, London Mayor Joe Fontana joined “Home at Last” Partners LSTAR, CMHC, and Habitat for Humanity to move a home donated by the City for the program from its old foundations to a new location. The home will now be renovated and given to a family selected by Habitat. Home At Last makes the dream of home ownership a reality for low-income families.

Home at Last is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity London, the London and St. Thomas Association of Realtors (LSTAR), and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. The partnership provides homeownership opportunities for families living in social housing, and frees up existing social housing rental units for more needy families. It also extends the life of existing housing stock through renovation and rehabilitation and revitalizes neighbourhoods through direct investment.

“Home ownership can make a huge difference to a family and, at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about – the family,” said LSTAR Executive Vice-President, Betty Dore.

This is the third Home at Last project since 2006. Last year, a Habitat family received keys to a refurbished home through the HAL partnership.
