REALTORS® Help Raise $133,260 for the Homeless

On May 9, 2015, hockey enthusiasts lived out their fantasy to play alongside NHL and Olympic hockey greats at the second annual Hockey Helps the Homeless (HHTH) event in London.  The local real estate community, with leadership from the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® (LSTAR), have been instrumental in bringing the event to the city with sponsorship, promotion and volunteers.

Among the many players and supporters from Sutton were Bruce Sworik, Alex Sworik, Michael Legg and Wayne Gibson of Sutton Group – Select Realty Inc. and Gerry Weir, Dan Grantham, Warren Shantz and Ken Payne of Sutton Group – Preferred Realty Inc.

The event was amazing for Warren Shantz, who at 60 was the eldest member of the Western Fair District team, which placed fourth in fundraising with $8,657.  In terms of game performance, he laughs admitting that his team was “the best of the worst” raking third out of four in the competitive division.  It was still a fabulous day.  The pros on his team were Megan Bozak, Olympian and Team USA member, and Scott Walker, a former NHL player and owner of the OHL Guelph Storm.  Once again this year, Broker of Record Gerry Weir donated the entry fees for his teammates and played alongside them.

Alex Sworik, Michael Legg, Wayne Gibson and Bruce Sworik (Broker of Record) from Sutton Group – Select Realty Inc. were on the LSTAR team, which raised $6,315 toward the 2015 event grand total of $133,260.

LSTAR recently recognized the efforts of their HHTH committee members including Dan Grantham and Warren Shantz.  Each received a Quality of Life award.  Dan serves on the LSTAR Board and organizes the popular HHTH gala dinner seating 325 guests!
