REALTORS® Raise Money for Youth Sports and Fitness at Spin4Kids

On Saturday, March 7, 2015, Gail Power, Janet Armour and Ryan Power from Sutton Group – Masters Realty Inc. participated in Spin4Kids, a fundraiser for youth sports and fitness.  These REALTORS® were part of an eight-person team that rode (or ‘spun’) for eight hours at a GoodLife fitness centre. With personal donations and contributions from friends, coworkers and clients, they surpassed the minimum entry fee to raise $1,829 for the GoodLife Kids Foundation. Their team’s contribution helped to bring the Kingston total to $23,500 and the nationwide total to approximately $1 million.

“We love kids, we love spin and this program allowed us to raise funds to help get kids fit!” says Ryan, who served as team captain. “I liked the fact that it was an enjoyable team event that draws attention to the issue of getting our kids active.”

“Too often it’s easier to let kids sit in front of an Xbox game or computer because it keeps them quiet. My wife Gail and I have a 14-year-old son, who plays hockey, football, soccer and many other sports but also enjoys screen time. By us participating in this event, we have been an example for him. It’s okay to enjoy some screen time, but it is very important to be physically active too. Productivity increases with good physical fitness and proper lifestyle!”

The ‘Power Team’ members are already planning to do this again next year. “We even have a few new recruits and may have enough people to enter two teams next year!”

Funds raised through Spin4Kids supports national, provincial and local programs that provide physical activity opportunities for children as well as grants for in-school fitness activities and after-school sports. GoodLife Fitness covers 100% of the administrative and operational expenses of these initiatives and Spin4Kids.
