Riding for a Cause: Ontario REALTORS® Hit the Road for the 18th Annual Motorcycle Ride for Charity

On September 24 and 25, the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation’s Motorcycle Ride for Charity returned for its 18th year. What began nearly two decades ago as a small group of riders with a shared passion for giving back has grown into one of the foundation’s most recognizable and dependable fundraisers, supporting shelter and food security organizations across the province.

This year’s adventure took riders to Northern Ontario on a 1,000-kilometre, two-day journey. Despite stretches of heavy rain, the group rode from Collingwood through Wiarton, boarded the iconic MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry to Manitoulin Island, paused for photos at 10 Mile Point, and wrapped up the evening in Sudbury. Day two carried them from Sudbury to North Bay and Huntsville, with the journey ending in Barrie.

The REALTORS® who participate in and fundraise for this event understand the realities facing their communities. For many, the Motorcycle Ride for Charity isn’t just a tradition, it’s a way to directly support the organizations delivering essential programs across Ontario.

 “When we get together as fundraisers and as riders, the brands disappear,” said Luc Bock, Chair of the Sudbury Real Estate Board and one of this year’s top fundraisers. “Everybody is just a REALTOR® trying to do good for their community.”

This year’s fundraising goal was $58,000. Thanks to the dedication of REALTORS®, brokerage-owners, board leaders, and passengers, the ride surpassed expectations by raising nearly $67,000, making it their most successful ride yet. Money raised through the ride contributes directly to a series of grants that support shelter-based organizations across Ontario. These include programs such as the Local Express Grants, along with other funding opportunities and charitable partnerships that follow strict eligibility criteria. Together, these funds help ensure that every dollar goes where it is most urgently needed and supports organizations serving Ontario’s most vulnerable community members.

“Those funds go to the communities in which these REALTORS® work,” explained Lori Roberts, President of the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation. “They’re helping their friends, their family, their neighbors, even potentially their colleagues. It’s making a really big difference and a really big impact.”

This year’s Motorcycle Ride for Charity also inspired unexpected moments of generosity. In Sudbury, a hotel guest overheard riders discussing the fundraiser and donated $2,500 on the spot. Another passerby, on his way to a funeral, donated in honour of the deceased. These gestures underscore the awareness the ride brings to community needs across Ontario.

The funds raised from the ride are just one piece of the Ontario REALTORS Care® Foundation’s wider impact. Last year alone, it distributed $1.8 million to more than 170 organizations that provide meals, emergency beds, crisis support, and safe places for families to turn in difficult times.

Plans for next year’s ride are already underway, ensuring that the tradition continues to grow and reach new communities. Each kilometer ridden and each dollar raised contributes to supporting Ontarians facing food insecurity, homelessness, and crisis, while also strengthening the REALTOR® community’s connection to the people and places they serve.
