Association of Regina REALTORS® Celebrates Opening of Courtyard at North Central Family Centre

As part of its 100th Anniversary Celebrations in 2012, the Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc. (ARR) has provided funds to support new enhancements on the North Central Family Centre’s Courtyard.

“We are so grateful to the Association of Regina REALTORS® for providing funds for this project. They have been involved in supporting this organization, and making a difference in this neighbourhood for seven years. This really shows how committed they are to supporting families in the City… and it shows they haven’t forgotten about anyone,” said Sandy Wankel, Director of the North Central Family Centre.

The Association’s president said the organization is pleased to be able to support the Centre in beautifying the neighbourhood and making it safer for residents.

“The North Central Family Centre runs some very good projects that really help to make North Central a better neighbourhood in which to live and raise a family. We are very pleased that we have been able to help support projects that do make a difference for people living in this area,” said Mike Duggleby, President, Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc.

The courtyard has been expanded to include an area for barbecues, and a large stone picnic table, vegetable gardens and flower beds. The family-focused area wraps around the entire building has been finished with a fence.

“This will be such a great area for families,” said Wankel. “We are so pleased to be able to now offer families an attractive outdoor venue in which to gather, and which encourages community building,” she said.

As well as receiving support from the Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc, the project is receiving significant volunteer labour from residents living in the area, and from around the city.

“We’re really pleased that this project has generated so much excitement in the community and is helping to continue to pull the community together around a common goal,” said Gord Archibald, Executive Officer, Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc.

The Association has partnered with the Family Centre on a series of projects over the past six years. Most recently it has provided funds for the Centre’s Youth Empowerment Program, which works to both “beautify” the neighbourhood, and make it safer for residents. As part of its 100th Anniversary celebrations in 2012, the Association has also:

  • created a Centennial Builders Hall which recognizes REALTORS® who have made outstanding contributions in the development of the city;
  • developed a School Citizenship Award, which will be presented annually to one grade 8 student graduating from each elementary school within the public and Catholic school systems. The award will be an ongoing legacy from Regina REALTORS® to Regina elementary school students; and
  • created and released a booklet on the history of REALTORS® and the Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc. in Regina over the past 100 years.
