Twin Sisters Awarded Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc 2010 University Scholarships

For the first time in the 33 year history of its university scholarship program, the Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc.has awarded its two annual scholarships to twin sisters.

Michelle and Roxanne Korpan have been awarded the 2010 scholarships because of their achievements academically and in the areas of leadership, athletics and fine arts.

The 19-year old sisters have completed their first year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Regina’s Luther College. Both have danced since they were three years of age and are currently enrolled with the Youth Ballet and Contemporary Dance of Saskatchewan. They are also members of the Youth Ballet’s performing company.

Both volunteer with the Regina Open Door Society’s youth program, assisting immigrant children in reading, writing, English skills and school homework. Roxanne also volunteers with Regina’s Common Weal program that links artists with communities to inspire social change through art.

Roxanne and Michelle grew up in Regina and attended Luther College.

“It means a lot to be personally recognized for academic and leadership achievements,” says Michelle. “ A scholarship like this is really valuable because it reinforces how important these areas are.”

The twins plan to pursue further education after receiving their B.A. program. They say the scholarships will help them in this pursuit.

Each year, through the Association, Regina REALTORS® invest in their community by awarding two scholarships to University of Regina students. The scholarships are intended to encourage and support excellence in education. The criteria include having attended high school in Regina, having a good academic standing and a demonstrated ability in areas such as leadership, athletics and fine arts.

“We’re really proud of these scholarships,” says Gordon Archibald, Executive Officer, Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc. “ As members of Regina’s real estate community, we care about enhancing the quality of life in Regina This is one of a number of ways in which our members invest in enhancing and strengthening our community.”

The University of Regina scholarship program has provided assistance to more than 60 students since it was created by the Association in 1977.

The Association has been serving Regina and area since 1912. It ensures that its members adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Practice. The Association manages the Multiple Listing Service ® System in Regina and area, publishes ReginaRealEstateReview.com and operates The REALTOR® Channel on Cable TV channel 9.

The annual scholarships are for $1,000 each or a total of $2,000.
