Fellow REALTORS® and Community Rally for B.C. Father Left Paralyzed after Accident

Family, friends, hockey teammates, and fellow members of organized real estate are rallying around a White Rock REALTOR® and father of two young children, who has been left paralyzed from the chest down after a freak sports accident on April 21, 2012. Richard Morrison was playing hockey when he tripped over a goalie’s pad and broke his neck on the ice.

Described by friend and fellow REALTOR® Brent Silzer as “a humanitarian” and “a good soul,” Morrison was known for contributing to his community, driving a handyDART bus to transport individuals who have disabilities sufficiently severe that they are unable to use conventional transit services, helping them get around town.

Morrison now faces a number of challenges in the wake of his devastating injury. He will undergo six months of treatment and rehabilitation. He and his family will have to move out of their condo into a wheelchair-accessible home. They will also need to buy a new van. Friends are raising money to help the family with Morrison’s long-term care. They have set up a website to raise awareness and funds. Fundraising events are also being planned for the coming weeks.

Support is starting to pour in, including a $1,500.00 donation from Morrison’s local Board, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board. As Silzer states on the Richard Morrison Fund website, “It seems people across the country who don’t even know Rich are very intrigued by his story – it touches home to a lot of people.”
