The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) recognized two REALTORS® recently for their exemplary commitment to charity and community causes.

Chris Chan and Jimi Brockett were honoured with the REALTORS Care® Award at REBGV’s annual Medallion Club Awards gala at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

“The REALTORS Care® Award celebrates REALTORS® and their companies that make generosity and selflessness central to how they operate as professionals,” said REBGV President Darcy McLeod. “This year’s recipients go beyond expectations in giving back to their communities.”

Jimi Brockett, of Dexter Associates Realty in Vancouver, lost his son Ryder to brain cancer. During the treatment process, Brockett saw his community come to his aid and support his family through this tough time. As soon as he was in the position to give back he jumped at the opportunity.

Today, Brockett is the captain of one of the largest teams in the Ride to Conquer Cancer – Riders for Ryders. The team has raised more than $2 million since 2009. Brockett also founded Foundation 33, a non-profit that’s dedicated to helping families affected by cancer by just making them smile.

Chris Chan, of Regent Park Realty in Vancouver, founded the Young Ambassadors Program which creates projects for youth across the Lower Mainland to volunteer and fundraise for BC Children’s Hospital.

Chan’s son was diagnosed with Leukemia at three years old. Seeing Children’s Hospital at work through his son’s recovery gave Chris an appreciation for the hospital’s need for help and funding. The charity has raised $700,000 in the past five years.

In addition to his work with the Young Ambassadors Program, Chris has served as a board member of the Chinese Miracle Weekend at the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. He’s also an avid blood donor and advocate for blood donation.
