REALTORS® in Fredericton strike again, raising more than $12,000 for provincial crisis phone line

On September 29, 2019, REALTORS® and members of the housing community from the Fredericton area laced up their bowling shoes and hit the lanes for a night of fundraising and fun for their annual REALTORS Care® Day fundraiser. Together, they raised more than $12,000 for this year’s beneficiary: Chimo Helpline.

Chimo is a provincial crisis phone line for all residents of New Brunswick and is available to those in need 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their mission is to provide “a competent level of crisis intervention, referrals and vital information in a caring, confidential manner.”

“Chimo provides an incredibly important service to the community, and we were more than happy help,” explains Real Estate Board of the Fredericton Area’s Executive Officer, Sharon Watts. “Last year, they received almost 11,000 calls from people in our communities who are struggling with their mental health or having thoughts of suicide. Mental Health Awareness is a top priority in our area with the suicide rates very high within our province therefore wanted to help this organization with funds to hire more staff.”

REALTORS® from different brokerages across the region came together for the event, but it didn’t stop there. A diverse group of professionals from different corners of the housing community joined in, from home inspectors to accounting firms. In total, 12 teams participated in the event, each providing $500 in pledges to support Chimo.

“We reached out to our real estate offices and various other real estate related businesses such as mortgage brokers and home inspectors for their participation, either by sponsorship, entering a team, or donating silent auction items,” explains Sharon.

The event’s impressive $12,000 fundraising total was thanks to the hard work and dedication exhibited by all participants and the REALTORS® from the Real Estate Board of the Fredericton Area who organized the event. Special congratulations were extended to the home inspectors whose team had the most successful fundraising campaign.
