Suitcase Party raises over $23,000 for Royal LePage Shelter Foundation

Royal LePage Wildrose Real Estate’s 1st Annual ‘Suitcase Party’ hit the mark with $23,511 raised for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation.

Held Friday, May 3 at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites in Olds, Alberta, more than 100 guests were encouraged to bring a packed suitcase and be ready to leave from the event on a mystery weekend-long getaway. Suitcases were placed on the stage and slowly eliminated by draw until one winner remained. Two lucky guests were then whisked away to the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge where they enjoyed two nights’ accommodation, dining, spa treatments and outdoor activities. A surprise consolation prize was also awarded to the owner of the second place suitcase.

Auctioneer for the evening was Royal LePage sales representative Dwight Boychuk and emcee services were provided by a local radio announcer.

All event proceeds were directed by the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation to the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Society’s building fund.

“We are absolutely thrilled with our fundraising results and are thankful for our generous sponsors, supporters and community,” said Royal LePage Wildrose Real Estate broker/owner Merrell Dickie.

“Everyone’s kind contributions will make a long-term difference for those in our area who need a safe place to go to escape domestic violence,” added co-organizer Clare Dickie.

Plans are already in place for next year’s Suitcase Party, scheduled for May 8, 2020.

  1. Since we organised and hosted this fun event, donations have continued to come in for the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Building Fund, as a direct result of the incredible publicity and advertising given to our event. We have had a further $9,500 added to our original amount, giving us a total of over $33,011 to date. This has been an unexpected extra boost to our “Suitcase Party” fundraiser overall total, and towards the Mountain View Emergency Shelter Building Fund. We are excited as to what next years event will bring, and to the reality of an Emergency Shelter being started to be built in our area in the near future!
